This October, Lake Huron Medical Center is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer in women after skin cancer. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.

The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

  • If you are a woman age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them.
  • If you are a woman age 50 to 74, be sure to get a mammogram every 2 years. You may also choose to get them more often.

Offering the Highest Level Care

Lake Huron Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI of the breast offers valuable information about many breast conditions that may not be obtained by other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

Schedule Your Mammogram Today!

Lake Huron Medical Center offers mammography services Monday through Friday year-round, and for the month of October, on Saturday’s. With a doctor’s order, you can call to schedule your mammogram at a time convenient to you. Mammography appointments can be made by calling (810) 216-1455.

Lake Huron Foundation is also proud to offer FREE MAMMOGRAMS throughout the month for women who meet income guidelines. Please ask about this program when you call to make your appointment to see if you prequalify.
